The Switch
I’ve finally done it. I’ve traded in my Samsung Reality for
a Droid RAZR, and oh, what a change. I thought, “I’m pretty savvy, how hard can
the change be?”
Apparently, meltdown hard. I couldn’t find my pictures, I
didn’t know how to change my ringtone or access any of the information on my SD
card.
Eating at Olive Garden after picking out my phone, the
waitress giggled while I struggled with my phone. Apparently the fact that a
millennial doesn’t know how to get her pictures is hysterical (I have to admit
that if I was her, I would be laughing, too).
How do I start?
I know that a new phone shouldn’t be so hard, but after
going from something that in the eye of today’s technology can do so little, to
one that can do so much, it can be a little overwhelming. So, after getting rid
of the “Droid” voice after every text and the creepy robotic red eye in the
background, I was at peace. Well, for a while at least.
Then, I realized, I should get apps. Apps were one of the
real reasons I wanted a new phone. I figured, I’m involved enough in social
media, I should have a phone that can do just that.
However, that’s easier said than done. Making sure the apps
aren’t “malicious” as my phone warns against was a little nerve racking. But, I
did my research and figured out what apps I should or shouldn’t get.
My first download? Facebook, of course! My second, Twitter.
Now, only if Pinterest had a mobile app I would have the top three social media
platforms right on my phone! But, I guess I can just use my browser widget to
check on Pinterest.
What next?
Now that I have a new phone, and I can do almost anything
with it, what now? Exploration!
